The following guide shows how to install a custom plugin that isn’t listed on the Plugins page.

Note: Use caution when installing plugins. Always make sure you understand the code and/or that it is from a trusted source. AI is not perfect, but you can use it to check if the code is safe and to understand what it does.

Step 1

Log into WordPress Dashboard and select Plugins

Step 2

Click the Add Plugin button, then click the Upload Plugin and browse to and select the zip file you created. Then click Install Now

Note: Your theme dashboard/menus may look different, but the steps should be the same.

STEP 3

Click Activate Plugin.

Step 4

Create a new post or edit a theme and follow the instructions on how to use the plugin.

Step 5

Publish or preview your post/preview your theme to check that it works.

That’s it. You’ve just installed your own plugin. See my other posts on how to create a custom plugin.
